Magazine inspiration - Part 5

It seems like ages since I've posted images of one of the many (many) homes which inspired me in undertaking my renovations.

Here is a gorgeous property, as featured in Home Beautiful Magazine. I think what I love most about this property is the way they have incorporated a bit of that mid-century feel into what is a very sleek and contemporary home.

I'm loving the Eames DSW chairs and collection of vintage bottles on the table.

We all know I love a good vintage style sideboard - this one featured above, in combination with the French poster is a winner in my books.

Want to steal their style? You could start with a few replica eames chairs from Matt Blatt (not bad at $99 a pop). As you can see these chairs are super sexy, even teamed with a relatively simple table. They come in red and black as well, if you want a hint of colour in your life:

If you're like me and love a bit of vintage glassware, eBay is the place for you to be. Here are a few gorgeous examples I found currently on offer from the seller atlantictreasure. While they are a bit chunkier than the ones pictured above, I think the colours are amazing.

Finish it all up with a retro poster and voila - your home might be featured in Home Beautiful one day!

Blue and green should never be seen...

This gorgeous home featured in the latest issue of Lonny Magazine really caught my eye. (For those of you who don't read Lonny - do it! Now! It's a free online magazine and is amazing!)

I admire people who have that bower-bird mentality and can manage to really bring such unique collections together in a cohesive way.

The collection of blue and green vases has me in awe! I have to admit I have loved that combination of deep green with the lighter, almost turquoise, blue for many years. My love for this colour scheme was brought on many years ago when I first set my eyes on the Jasper Conran for Wedgeood Chinoiserie collection.

Blue + green + birds = heaven in a plate.

Confession time... while I have been in love with this Wedgwood set for at least 3 or 4 years now, the price point is somewhat prohibitive so I've never been able to justify buying it for myself. So I secretly (or at least secretly up until now) put it on my list that, "if one day I ever get married and set up a wedding registry, this is the first thing going on it".

Magazine Inspiration - Part 4

I thought it was time I posted some more pretty pictures I've had stashed away and used as inspiration for my house. Here is a lovely house that was featured in RealLiving magazine:

SCAN0028

Where do I start? Well firstly I am jealous by the collection of sideboards that the owner of this place has. Secondly - the framed posters and artwork. I love how they have a vintage feel and still work so well mixed in with modern pieces.

SCAN0031

I think the collection of yellow glass is possibly my favourite feature of this house.

SCAN0029

As a final note, there are no words to express how in love I am with that yellow cow hide rug. If anyone has one they want to give to me, I'll happily take it off your hands.

It's a running joke among my friends about how much I love anything and everything that is mustard yellow in colour... apparently it's a "weird shade".

Magazine Inspiration - Part 3

Here are some photos of yet another house (or at least a room) which I love.

SCAN0023

I have to admit I'm a bit jealous of whoever owns this house - they have the most amazing eye. For example, I think if I saw that rug on it's own it would get the thumbs down from me.

SCAN0024

Similarly, those pillows could scream "granny" if taken out of context. But together - the gorgeous mustard yellow sofa, the Eames style coffee table it's just perfect. I love the colour palette and the eclectic feel of the room.

SCAN0025

Isn't the telephone table (complete with retro phone) just the perfect touch?

FYI - if you're after that gorgeous coffee table, you can purchase similar from Matt Blatt or Click-On Furniture.

Display ideas

I've previously mentioned a few of the display items in my home, in particular my retro sideboard and my genie bottle.

While flicking through a recent copy of RealLiving Magazine I came across this image:

SCAN0021

I really love this display and would like to think I can incorporate something similar in my house. The balance between the antlers up high and the group of bottles just works! Plus I love the casual element of propping pictures against the wall, as opposed to hanging them.

I already have the sideboard and one genie bottle - I'm wondering if I should aim to collect some more. Alternatively, I've started collecting a few pieces of amber glassware which could work in this type of set up... I guess time will tell.

Magazine Inspiration - Part 2

Apologies if things have been a bit quiet around here lately. I've been fairly busy and lacking in inspiration! So here's a quick post on another property I love:

I think this property is amazing, everything is neutral and yet it has so much depth. I love how they've taken a relaxed approach with the artwork and have it leaning against the wall and above the fire place - what a great idea for anyone who's renting or just trying to get a feel for art in a room.
I know I've posted before about how much I love anything and everything blue , so the collection of blue vases just tops it off for me.

Magazine inspiration - part 1

I've previously admitted that I'm a bit of a home magazine junkie. During the course of my renovations this obsession spiked to levels never seen previously - I decided to create a "file".

This sounds innocent enough right? Wrong! My file is divided into individually labelled sections, everything from bathroom fittings to tile quotes. My personal favourite section is home decor - which predominantly contains pictures I've ripped our of magazines featuring homes I love.

While spending particularly lonely Saturday night at home alone (valentines day eve, to be precise), I decided to scan and organise my inspiration pictures. Here is one of my favourite homes:

SCAN0026

I think I love every single element in the living room of this home! From the wooden floors, to the light walls, the full length curtains and the furniture. My favourite element would have to be the sideboard decorated with the collection of blue vases. (Apologies for the crooked scanning!).

SCAN0027

This is the dining room of the same house, once again I love each detail - the dining setting and cow hide rug are to die for!
