Magazine Inspiration - Part 4

I thought it was time I posted some more pretty pictures I've had stashed away and used as inspiration for my house. Here is a lovely house that was featured in RealLiving magazine:

Where do I start? Well firstly I am jealous by the collection of sideboards that the owner of this place has. Secondly - the framed posters and artwork. I love how they have a vintage feel and still work so well mixed in with modern pieces.

I think the collection of yellow glass is possibly my favourite feature of this house.

As a final note, there are no words to express how in love I am with that yellow cow hide rug. If anyone has one they want to give to me, I'll happily take it off your hands.

It's a running joke among my friends about how much I love anything and everything that is mustard yellow in colour... apparently it's a "weird shade".

Sideboards... yet again!

Yes I know, if I mention my love of sideboards again I'm going to lose any followers I have of this blog! Unfortunately, I felt that my previous sideboard was just too dark in comparison to the rest of the furniture in my living room!

Don't worry, I'm not planning on getting rid of it any time soon - I think I will relocate it to my bedroom or study. But success! after my long and drawn out search I now have a new sideboard. It's super cute, the perfect colour and the price is probably the best part - $50.

The previous owner explained to me that her mother-in-law had it custom designed back in the day and it was once the pride and joy of her house. I think it's nice that it now has a wonderful new owner (i.e. me) who will love it once again.

Display ideas

I've previously mentioned a few of the display items in my home, in particular my retro sideboard and my genie bottle.

While flicking through a recent copy of RealLiving Magazine I came across this image:

I really love this display and would like to think I can incorporate something similar in my house. The balance between the antlers up high and the group of bottles just works! Plus I love the casual element of propping pictures against the wall, as opposed to hanging them.

I already have the sideboard and one genie bottle - I'm wondering if I should aim to collect some more. Alternatively, I've started collecting a few pieces of amber glassware which could work in this type of set up... I guess time will tell.

Sideboards

One of the favourite pieces of furniture I've picked up for my house to date is probably also the cheapest. It's my danish inspired sideboard - picked up for the grand total of $30 from eBay.

In the scheme of things it isn't my "ultimate" sideboard as it isn't solid wood, but until I can afford the real thing she will get me by.

I personally love some of the offerings from RetroModern:

$850.00 from RetroModern.

$1,200.00 from RetroModern. I think when I get my house finalised I might have to bite the bullet and buy one!

The next question is how on earth to style my sideboard. I think they look really good with a variety of vases and artwork like this picture:

The sidboard, the clock, the chairs - ahhh mid-century loving. Image from apartment therapy via littleenglishgirl's photostream.

I think the sideboard works really well in this room as a tv cabinet. Image from Filipoo1.

Genie bottles

I adore "genie bottles" and other retro glass. In my dream home I think I would have a collection like this one from black-afro:

Or these:

Or even these:

I love the styling of this collection:

Unfortunately, I only have one lonely bottle at this point in time.

I think it's time to start trawling eBay and vintage stores to find some more!
